Well the solution is here and it is known as the fastest game on two feet and that solution is lacrosse. The number of people playing lacrosse has increased by two hundred twenty four percent in the past decade (Doyle). Lacrosse is America’s oldest sport dating back to 1650 in Huron country. Currently lacrosse is played by sixty nine Division One universities teams and in over thirty eight countries worldwide (US Lacrosse). Parents want their kids to be healthy and stay healthy and lacrosse can help please these parents by giving their kids this opportunity to be active and healthy. Childhood obesity is on the rise with many youth just watching, cheering, and idolizing sports and athletes (Daniels). Lacrosse uses up energy, which forces an athlete’s body to burn calories. When enough calories are burned, a calorie deficit will begin to form, making the body turn to stored fat for energy (Sherwood). The constant running from lacrosse will cause the body to burn stored fat for energy. The fat is broken down, resulting in weight loss. Weight loss and weight maintenance from playing lacrosse helps prevent issues with overweight and obese children (Sherwood). Lacrosse can also help build muscle strength. Warm-ups, practices, strength training and any other physical activity used to prepare athletes for the game by increasing the resistance on the athletes muscles (Sherwood). Everything an athlete does while playing lacrosse can help someone build muscle and maintain that muscle. This resistance creates small areas of damage in the muscle tissue. “Lacrosse is a game of communication without communication a team can and will fall apart” says Eddie Jones when asked the importance of communication (Jones). Talking is very important to lacrosse. Teammates need to communicate with one another on when to move and when to pass. This game can increase the social skills of some children. The players work, sweat, plan and play together. The time spent focused on a goal bonds the players together (Daniels). Each team is only as strong as its weakest link, making every member an important component of overall team performance (5 Benefits of Lacrosse). This involves working together to make everyone better so everyone can be successful. Overcoming obstacles within a team is also a good way to develop lifelong friendships (5 Benefits of
