Alvarez published “Why N.W.A.’ s Message is Now More Relevant than Ever” in Complex Magazine in August 2015, in which he goes into depth about how Niggaz Wit Attitudes’ (N.W.A) message is more relevant now with the topics of racial politics and police violence. The article uses people of all different platforms such as hip-hop artists, producers, and pastors to talk about how hip-hop benefits and harm adolescents. He targets the paper towards teenagers and young adults because many similar situations that happened back in the 80’s and 90’s are happening today. In Sternheimer’s book, she provides several myths that have been created about violence and teenage sex and disprove how popular culture is the influence on adolescents today. She takes a very relevant subject with media and explain to parent, authorities, and adolescents themselves about how popular culture cannot be blamed for the behaviors and actions of adolescents. The book displays several line and bar graphs to show how popular culture has very few influences on topics such as birth rates, poverty, and violence. Sternheimer’s book and Netcoh’ article because they both argue that popular culture is not the only influence on adolescent’s behaviors, personality, and actions. Although they both seem to get across that popular culture isn’t the only factor that influence adolescents, Sternheimer seem to be just disproving of how media is used as a scapegoat and to be blamed that it’s only influencing negative behaviors. In my final essay, I plan to use this book because it will help me get in the other side of the argument about how hip-hop music doesn’t influence these violent tendencies and sexual
