Generally in any kind of elections, there is consistently a common occurrence. Young people simply do not vote and there is always a low voter turnout compared to older generations. Although some campaigns like Barrack Obama’s back in 2008 and currently Bernie Sanders presidential campaign did attract more young people to participate in the presidential primaries, the turnout is still relatively low compared to older people. Politicians try to get younger people to vote by communicating with them on social medias like Facebook and Twitter, however neither of this is significant enough to get the majority of younger people to go participate in elections. “Millennial drop-off voters do not feel informed enough to vote in local elections. They struggle to find information about local elections and don 't know which sources to trust," according to the Knight Foundation study” (High 1). Until recently, many information about local elections could be only found on newspapers and television in which those two sources are being used less by millennials every single day. Younger people rely on the internet and other social media outlets to gather information in today’s modern world. Younger people simply do not read newspapers or watch television as much as before due to the internet However, this explains why older people vote more than younger people because they use newspapers and television more which gets them better informed and causes a bigger voter turnout. In order to better inform younger people, information about elections has to distributed to social media like Facebook or twitter in order to better inform younger voters and encourage them to vote.
