Rome started out as a Republic, but as time went on Rome transformed into an empire. Rome went through many rulers and obstacles when it was an empire. All of these obstacles eventually lead to the fall of Rome. The fall of Rome was mainly due to the Rise in Christianity, Political Corruption, and Inflation.
The Rise in Christianity is one of the main reasons why Rome fell because the rise caused division and it made the military weaker. “The culture of the Roman Empire had been transformed by a new religion….as Rome had lost power, the old gods, goddesses, and ceremonies no longer were meaningful to many people. People no longer were believing in the same thing which would cause division within the empire. “Christians refused to fight for Rome during a time when soldiers were needed” (Ten Theories Notes). “Armies fought with each other to place their own man in power. The soldiers of the army that backed the next emperor would be rewarded with wealth and power. A poor general was of no use to his army. Soldiers might support a man with no military experience as long as he was rich” (Discovery Ed). The want for money and power corrupted the empire and the military. Instead of fighting for the greater good of Rome people were fighting for money and power. This caused people to fight with each other instead of fighting against the enemies of the empire. “Often the throne was sold to the highest bidder”(Ten Theories Notes). Selling the throne to the highest bidder would hurt Rome because Rome would not be ruled by someone who is a good leader, but instead, Rome would be ruled by someone rich who just wants power. Making ruling the empire about money harmed Rome’s citizens because the government cared about making money for themselves not about making the empire better.
