The fall of Rome is question that needs to be answered by everyone or what really caused the fall of Rome. There are many reasons as to why Rome fell but everyone owns their own opinion as to why Rome fell. Today we were given three authors that investigated their own view on how Rome. Walter Goffart believes that more of a transformation of Rome happened because even though wars happened, it didn’t affect the economy, people just moved on. Parsons believes it was the people of Rome that caused the fall to Rome. Ward-Perkins seems to think that the lack of participation of the Roman citizens caused the failure. Ward-Perkins seems to believe that it was the participation of the Roman citizens that caused the fall of Rome. Finally, Parsons believes it was the people of Rome that made Rome fall. At the end of the day, I believe that Parsons was correct out of the three authors for three reasons. The first reason that I agree with him is because the economy. The economy is the biggest source that any country runs on. If the economy is strong then a country should see no problems and if the economy is bad than we watch that country scramble to fix it. The second reason that I agree with Parsons is because he doesn’t single out one specific thing that caused the fall to Rome. Ward-Perkins basically believes that it was the participation of the people, however I believe participation was a bad word choice. I think Rome fell due to the fact that the people running Rome really didn’t know what they were doing. An example of this would be the wealthy people being charged more taxes and the regular Roman citizens being charged just a property and general tax. I think in order for them to avoid that they should have made a small percentage that everyone paid no matter what. Basically Parsons says “if one person fails, then we all fail” and I like how he puts that and doesn’t single out one
