Nicholas Confessore, the author of ”How School Lunch Became the Latest Political Battleground”, displays the challenges of transitioning from the old rules to the new rules as part of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign. It is clear to all parties that childhood obesity is rising at a dangerous rate in America and school lunches are believed to be the necessary first change. Unfortunately, the multiple different parties that are involved in making the changes do not see eye-to-eye. The School Nutrition Association is one of the groups pushing back against the new government policies. Since the SNA is comprised mostly of lunch ladies, they believe the current meals are the healthiest meal most students receive in a given day.
Did you know that some schools only allow their students 5-10 minutes to eat their lunch? That is basic to me. In the article Should Lunch Be Longer by Mackenzie Carro, it states that school lunches should be longer for mental and emotional reasons. A longer lunch will allow the students to more likely eat their fruits and vegetables. First, the lunches should not be processed foods because those use a lot of chemicals that are harmful to the body. Some examples of processed foods are foods that come pre made or from a box or a can. Processed foods usually contain more con syrup and sugars, usually addicting and can make you gain weight, contains many artificial ingredients, high in carbohydrates, and uses lots of oils that are usually processed as well.

Image you have a serious allergy to what the schools lunch gave you. You wouldn't have anything to eat that day except for the sides. That would not be enough to get you full. You would be starving and not focusing on school work. Therefore schools should offer types of foods they serve at lunch because kids with allergies need certain food, kids with diets might need certain foods for their diets, and kids might not like the food so they waste it.
Do you agree with the changes Michelle Obama has made to lunches in our schools? People are either for the changes or against them. There are many pros and cons about the changes made to school lunches. Even though there are pros to the changes, a majority of people do not agree with the changes. I feel school lunches should be changed, to an extent, for a couple of reasons.
The principal is trying to change school lunch menu's to healthier meals. I strongly believe that this is a good idea to change the lunches because of the following reasons: healthier meals makes kids grow big and strong, it gives you more energy to move around, and it taste delicious. Schools all around should consider changing their lunches for the better of their student. This is for the better of the student to have healthy food. I will go into greater detail in the following paragraphs.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
Look back at what you ate at school and ask yourself if it is healthy. Is there healthy alternatives to school lunch? Is there a variety of choices to choose from? Not necessarily things to make you want to eat school lunch, but could possibly change your opinions on it. Schools cannot put more nutrients than required, therefore if they do they could get in trouble because it is a required law to be followed. “These federal rules say that a school lunch can 't provide more than 30% of a child 's daily requirement of fat or 10% of saturated fat. Further, the lunch must provide at least one-third of the child 's daily requirements of protein and vitamins." (Healthy Lunches) "Researchers have found that students are better able to concentrate during the afternoon if they have eaten a well-balanced lunch that provides sustainable energy (unlike quick fix snacks such as candy bars or soft drinks, which lead to a rapid rise and fall in blood sugar levels).
To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate.

Should schools change the healthy foods to foods that students would actually want to eat? School food’s job is to be healthy and tasty to get the students through their day, but sadly school lunches tend to miss the mark on both accounts. Public schools rely on money from the government to supply food to their students, but due to several cutbacks the thing served in the cafeteria is hardly food at all.
