Elie Wiesel’s Night should not be banned from the book list for ninth grade because it is a book that teaches very important lessons despite the fact that it contains violent scenes. The book shows that we should treat people in a good way even if they are not like us. It reveals the horrible consequences of inhumanity, the meaningless suffering and unbearable pain of innocent people. These reasons show that the book is very important for the grown-ups because it deals with fundamental questions about humanity and moral values. This book should not be banned even though it portrays so many violent moments because it shows us the horrible reality of racial prejudice and discrimination. Wiesel uses a lot of very detailed descriptions and expresses his feelings in a way that we easily start to trust him. He knows that this is one of the most terrible periods in the history and he tries “to help prevent history from repeating itself” (Wiesel VII). “He does not want his past to become [the children’s] future” and that is why he writes his book to be seen by the people who do not realize how poorly people were treated (Wiesel XV). These two quotes from Night show that the holocaust shouldn’t be repeated. The author shows this with all of the feelings, facts and descriptions he uses. This book is very important because it teaches the reader things they didn’t know well or proves to them that they are wrong if they believed that the Holocaust was not harmful. No one had the right to treat these people in that way and no one has the right to ban this book because this will be censorship. Night also shows the truth about the Holocaust and teaches us that this period in history should be prevented from happening
