At that time building and construction was not a lucrative option based on the economic status of the early nineties. I evaluated other careers that I felt that I would be interested in and also provided employment that pays well. I decided on a trade in Electronics and New England Tech caught my attention When I attended New England Tech at time when electronics, computers and electromechanical was the growing field. I spent a great deal of thought before I made this decision. Some may think that it’s a big risk for me. however, I believe that it’s an opportunity to learn a different aspect of this industry that I’m not familiar with. I research on colleges that offer technology and training that I was looking for. I found colleges that offered courses in décor and designing, however not all offered a degree and also did not teach structural building. I was not looking for a class in decorating. When New England Tech appeared up in my research, I was interested. Since I’m an alumnus, I was aware of their teaching philosophy, hands on instruction with professors that have worked in the industry. This coarse in particular, Building Information and Modeling, is a good example of what I need to learn in the field. The applications of the Revit program can be used in designing that will be helpful in demonstrating ideas to potential clients and It will be useful in identifying possible building conflicts before construction starts. This is one of many instances where the hands on training is necessary. I’m in my fourth session at New England Tech, and so far the classes have taught me the essentials of how the process of design and building works. This leads into why a degree in this particular field is necessary, from a business standpoint view, it’s an advantage entering the changing profession.
