As many of you may know, high school sports have been an integral part of American education for decades. Not only do they promote physical health and well-being, but they also provide valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and discipline. However, despite their importance, high school sports programs often receive insufficient funding, resulting in limited resources and opportunities for our student-athletes. High school sports programs deserve more funding. Firstly, sports programs offer a way for students to stay physically active and healthy, which is particularly important given the rising rates of obesity and sedentary lifestyles among young people.
Some of the many problems high school students face are juvenile arrests, teen pregnancies, suicide, depression, and even dropping out of school. However, playing sports reduces many of these problems for students according to Global Sports Development.org. Another increasing problem in today's world is obesity. Obesity is a major health problem that affects many. One of the ways to solve this problem is physical activity, and to many high school students this can be accessed by playing sports.
Education, as being the base to anyones future economically and culturally, has been a big topic of discussion between teachers, parents, and many other social groups. For this matter, we will discuss two opposing texts about the usefulness of the Physical Education program; more known as P.E.; in our children’s educational process. The first text/speech; “Why Physical Education Should No Longer Be a Requirement for Graduation” by Juanita Sanchez; explains to us that because of the need to teach our children the biggest requirements for college and a working, successful future, we need to teach more of the core classes. She says that P.E. is a time consuming subject that causes the students to be incompetent in these so called core classes
