The middle ages took place from 500 AD to 1500 in Europe. Many people say that the middle ages should be defined or renamed as the dark ages. However, there is evidence to support the claim that it should not be. The middle ages shouldn 't be renamed the dark ages because the documents given did not support anything about Europe during the time. Calling the middle ages the dark ages is inappropriate because the dark ages was a time period in Europe. During the middle ages, Europe was going through a time of intellectual depression, while Japan was entering a time of artistic greatness. Again, Europe didn 't allow themselves to gain knowledge from or ideas from other countries.
