The book “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins has caused quite a stir as people have challenged this book saying that it’s disrespectful to religion, desensitizes children, and so much more. Children reading these books are now not being affected as much by very gruesome violence and have nightmares because of the descriptiveness of these books, “a parent in New Hampshire challenged the Goffstown school board over Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games claiming it gave her 11-year-old nightmares and could numb children to violence”, ("Banned Books Week -The Hunger Games") claims like these has been undoubtedly the reason for the ban on this series in multiple countries and states. This book does not desensitize people to violence as it constantly shows mourning towards the characters and empathy for what they have experienced. People have chosen to ban this book because they didn’t like the reality of it being bestowed upon children but that’s exactly why it should not be banned. This account states“to bring publishing under government control by creating a number of official censors to whom authors would submit their work for approval prior to publication. Milton argued that pre-censorship of authors was little more than an excuse for state control of thought.” (“Banning Books: Overview”) This book speaks up about government restrictions on what we’re allowed to do and say but that is more than demonstrated by the banning of this book. People didn’t like the reality of what the book was sharing and therefore it was banned. The Hunger Games shows Katniss and Peeta, the final survivors, fake their deaths so they would both be allowed to win instead of oe. This was a direct rebellion against President Snow. Every action by the Capitol ruling the fictional country of Panem, especially The Hunger Games is morally and ethically wrong” ("Banned Books Week -The Hunger Games”). For the “too much violence” comments, the violence in this book is almost always followed up with some sort of burial or remorse for the victim so no child will be “desensitized”. As for the anti-family remark, Katniss- the main character- protects her sister and mother constantly. She also shows having a close connection with her father as she mourns his death. The claim that this book is “anti-ethnic”, because a few colored characters die can not be further from the truth as they are painted as martyrs and heroes. The other claim that it is “anti-religion”, is also completely incorrect as there is no mention of religion in the book, one article states, “In regard to the other claims there is no mention of religion in any of the books, nor are there any references to the occult and of the anti-ethnic claim, all citizens in the 12 districts are vulnerable of being tributes regardless of ethnicity” (“Banning Books:
