Did you know that 100-1000 species of organisms go extinct on average every year? Many species of animals and even plants are going extinct due to habitat loss and poaching. The Endangered Species Act was created to help those species, but people often say it is misused, and others believe that it can actually help endangered species gain back population. While the Endangered Species Act has been misused in a lot of ways, it should be maintained because species are becoming endangered for many reasons, such as hunting and poaching, and it was created to help people understand the extinction issue and set rules to help protect the endangered species. Research confirms, “In total, only 59 species have been upgraded from endangered to threatened over the past fifty years.” (Dwyer, 2023). Statistics indicate, “In 2021, the number of manatee deaths nearly doubled from 600 to 1,100, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.” (Williams, 2024). My first piece of evidence shows that 59 species are still threatened, so the Act didn’t do much to help. Even though 59 species are threatened, there are over 1,747 species that the Act has successfully protected. My last piece of evidence shows, manatee deaths are increasing by a lot, and the Act isn’t being much help, but going back to the second piece of evidence on the second claim, people are really trying their best to keep these species out of …show more content…
