Why The Hunger Games Should Be Banned In Schools

Why do schools ban many famous books that contain violence and drugs even if kids are at the age where they can read this kind of literature? Many popular books that students could learn alot from, are banned. A lot of these books can actually teach kids in school important life lessons. Students should be allowed to read The Hunger Games in school because the book teaches how to survive, family is important and the value of relationships.
One reason teens should be able to read The Hunger Games because basic survival skills are learned. When people win the games, they have to be mentors for the following tributes for other years and teach them what to do to survive and talk to them about other tributes, the book says, “Making a fire out there will be as useful as a knife” (Collins, 57). This states, out in the games, there are a bunch of other people out there that are trying to kill one another. Most people in The Hunger Games will want to get their hands on a weapon. The mentor, Haymitch, has told the 2 competitors that getting a knife won't be helpful if you don't survive the nights. I gasp, i volunteer as tribute!” (Collins, 22). This shows, Even though there has only been one victor in her district and the hunger games, she wants to keep her little sister safe. She knows that her sister has no idea of how to hunt and the thought of losing her made her volunteer for her sister.
