Why The Vikings Were A Great Civilization Speech By: Edward, Josten and Ryan Throughout the course of time, humans developed the ability to write and keep records of life. The Vikings were a legendary attacking force according to the stories passed down from those that were lucky enough to survive a Viking raid. These stories and epics portrayed the Vikings as monstrous and ruthless two-horn helmet bearing warriors that demolished and pulverized anything that dare lie in their path. This perception of these Vikings has been determined to be accurate for as far as we know, but what if it’s wrong? What if instead of blood-thirsty barbarians, they were actually a flourishing civilization that preached as much education as we did today? Contrary to popular belief, new studies have shown that Vikings were the core of a great Civilization not unlike those of Mesopotamia and the Great Roman Empire. A key fact is that the word "Viking" was used to describe the entire Norse population, which is quite wrong. Sure, the Vikings attacked places mercilessly, but that's really unfair statement to make considering that the "warring" group of Norse citizens was less than half of the total population!
