Varsity Athletes Need Gym “89% of High school gym classes have attitude as the number one factor towards a student's grade in the class, so why should athletes be exempt from gym when their athletic ability and healthy lifestyle worth nothing while taking the class.”(Department of health). Varsity athlete, in most cases, is a person who participates at the highest sport level in high school. High schools have varsity teams that include all kinds of sports such as: baseball, basketball, soccer, football. Gym or Physical education is defined as the instruction in the development and care of the body ranging from simple calisthenic exercises to a course of study providing training in hygiene, gymnastics, and the performance and management of athletic games. These sports include football, basketball, soccer, and several more. Varsity athletes are able to play their sports at a high level, so the class useless if they don’t need to be good at all sports taught in the class.

The number of injuries in physical education classes is about 62,000 a year. Working hard in the sports allows athletes to receive a better grade in the class; this causes athletes to do their best and sometimes results in injuries. Athletes, instead of physical education, could use study halls to finish other important school work.
Varsity athlete, even though the play a sport at a high level, aren’t automatically healthy and know how to remain healthy throughout their life. In several sports you don't need to be in great shape or have healthy lifestyle. These sports include golf, cheerleading, baseball, and many more. Although these sports demand you be skilled at somethings they do not require you to live a healthy life and stay in great physical condition.
