Lucille Ball wanted to change the roles that women had in society and she showed this in different ways in her television shows. She was one of the most famous actress to alter the Hollywood industry. After trying to be noticed in Hollywood for many years she was finally noticed by a poster of her during her modeling career. She did what most other black women would not dare to do. As a dancer and being black Josephine was not supported in racist countries such as the United States and decided to speak up about her challenges. During her time as an activist she spoke up about racism and and worked for the French Resistance. She served as an intelligence liaison and an ambulance driver for the French Resistance, as a result, she was awarded the medal for the Resistance and the Legion of Honor. She became even more praised and respected in France.
At a young age, she knew she had a unique voice, so she used it and with the help of her brother Andrew playing guitar, she became a street singer begging for money. Around 1920, she settled down in Philadelphia and in 1923 she married a man named Jack Gee. Later in that same year, someone from Columbia Records recording company found her and they decided to sign a contract for her. Her first song was called “Down-Hearted Blues” and it sold about 800,000 copies, making her famous. Bessie performed in many shows with people such as Louis Armstrong, Clarence Williams, and Fletcher Henderson’s band.
A person with dreams they can’t achieve is like someone who doesn’t have a life. That person may know what they want to achieve, but doesn’t know how. Lucille Ball was a girl who couldn't afford much, even pencils. She decided to drop out of high school at age 15. Lucille did pursue her dreams, though.
