Why Was Stenstrom on the Bus: The Reoccurring Question
Ake Stenstrom was a young detective in Marin Beck’s homicide squad whom was brutally murdered during a bloodbath killing on a double-decker bus in Stockholm. Throughout the novel, a common and recurring question stated, “why was he on the bus?” which almost always seemed to lead to a dead end of conclusions. Within this paper, I will further go into detail of what his story was and how his colleagues of the Stockholm homicide squad reached their conclusion which ultimately answered the above question. We will begin with the initial beliefs of Stenstrom and his whereabouts, then lead into the actualities of the scenario, and finally conclude with the emphases of the appearance vs. reality of this terrible murder case.

They found him sitting next to a woman who was later named as Britt Danielsson, a nurse from a nearby hospital. Was this by chance or was Stenstrom cheating on his girlfriend, Asa Torell? They questioned Asa, who firmly believed that Ake would never and had never cheated on their relationship and swore her life upon it. They weren’t able to for sure take the possibility of an unfaithful relationship off of the table, but they decided to look at other possible scenarios that could have been the reason as to why Ake Stenstrom was on the bus. Another factor that the squad had to take into consideration was how Ake chose to keep a lot of information to himself and refrained from telling his colleagues, as well as his girlfriend, what he had been involved with regarding his work
