During the 1700s the British government had to pay off huge debts due to participating in wars throughout Europe and even the New World. The British Parliament decided to tax the colonies in the New World to pay off the debt because the colonies were very successful. In order to pay off huge debts, the Parliament passed ACTS that made the colonist very unhappy and started the American Revolution. The American Revolution is considered a revolution because of the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and lastly, a large population rebelled against the British rules. With all these factors coming together, it proves that the American Revolution is indeed a revolution. When the Sugar Act was passed, England started the policies to raise income from the colonies. This Act was designed to cut the trade with other countries in half and if they traded molasses with the foreign countries it would be illegal. The Act forced many of colonist to pay the taxes, even though they didn’t want to pay. Meanwhile, other colonist started to trade molasses with foreign countries. The Stamp Act, placed taxes on newspapers, legal documents, pamphlets, and other printed documents. This was the first Act that the colonist had to pay direct tax. This Act also, affect everyone even the most powerful people in the colonies.This was very surprising to the colonies and the colonist protested.
