Other than the Civil War, the most important event was the Mexican War. The Mexican War was important because it helped nationalism grow, and many of the states that America would own came from this war. The Mexican War made nationalism grow because the rest of America saw what the Texans would do to be a part of America. The Texans were prepared to fight in the Battle of the Alamo, (pg. 268) in order that they would not be a part of Mexico anymore. This action made the other Americans want Texas to be a part of America because they were loyal to the same country. The idea of nationalism was planted in the Americans at this time, but the Mexican War made it grow. When America defeated Mexico, the Americans saw themselves as the best because
