Dissection is not an ethical way to study animals and should never be used in classrooms. This is because children should not be taught that animals are disposable. They should be learning to treat any life with respect.

The first reason that dissection is not an ideal assignment is because it is killing millions of animals. There are over six million animals killed for the dissection industry each year. Majority of these animals are specifically born and bred for experimentation. This puts a premium price on animal life that some people are just not comfortable paying. Many students report that after they cut the animal up they do not remember learning anything about what they did or why. This shows that we are killing animals in schools for nothing because it doesn’t help the majority of the children learn. Schools shouldn’t be promoting dissection when they know how many animals have died for it.

Dealers only need to be inspected once per year, which is unacceptable. Although dissection is often about frogs and rats, there were more than 6,000 dogs used for testing, nearly 7,500 chimpanzees, and even 2,700 cats. For those who have to process these animals, it is not uncommon for a severe hatred of dissection to develop simply because they are exposed to the deaths so much. Also, only 5% of animals that are used for experiments of any kind are protected by Animal Welfare communities. There are few foreign control measures in place to determine how animals are obtained. Which means that the animals could have been taken straight out of their homes just for the use of dissection and nobody knows about
