Students are constantly getting in trouble for chewing gum in class, or we have to worry about sneaking our gum into the classroom so we can have it. Gum has never been allowed in class for the longest time, I think it’s time that rule should change. When were at home we are constantly chewing gum, so it’s a habit for some of us, the school shouldn’t expect us to break this habit while we’re there. I honestly think the no gum in the class room is a huge mistake and I know a lot of other people who agree. These are some of the reasons why I think this rule should change. Students should be able to have gum in class because it helps us focus more on what we are learning. Scientists have proven that chewing gum helps you focus better on your school work, it’s also been proven to help you remember what you have studied. Some of my friends and I get distracted very easily and it makes it hard to remember what the teacher was saying if we could chew gum we could stay focused more. Chewing gum is considered rude which is why other teachers hate gum in their class. The students could stop chewing their gum for a few minutes so we could answer the question. Other people find gum distracting. When a student has a piece of gum everyone is automatically going to stop what they are doing and ask for gum, but more students would buy gum if there wasn't a rule saying we couldn’t have it. Gum helps students stay quiet. While we’re chewing gum we won’t talk because we’re too busy chewing our gum. Most of the time we aren't allowed to talk in class the gum would prevent us from talking.
