Most colleges accept students based on their grades in a class and on how they do on standardized tests, like the SAT. Grades are used by most schools in the US and are used from extreme early ages, from kindergarten.Technology may be a big distraction to students, but there are ways to use technology "against" them and to make students learn without threatening them with homework. Grades do not show how well a student does on an assignment or test because many things could change from teacher to teacher like the difficulty of the tests, or what the test actually covers. How a student is interpreted by his grades do not impersonate how they perform. For example, many enjoy technology and will compare the markets' greatest phones before making a purchase. The iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S series are the greatest phones out today. I have owned two Samsung phones and two iPhones and am now I am returning to iPhone. With the Samsung phones, the specs on paper are unbeatable including an impressive quad core processor with 3 GB of ram. While on the other hand the iPhone serves a dual core processor with only 1 GB of ram. If you compare those 2 based on the specs, the Samsung is double as fast. But when actually using the phones, the iPhone always comes out on top because its just so much smoother and everything is integrated into the phone much better. This proves that what is listed on paper is not always an accurate representation of things. In this analogy, the grades given to students are the specs that are on paper, while what the student could be capable of that is not recorded is symbolized by how the iPhone does the same thing, and how it possesses the skills that are not …show more content…

In 1912 this point was proven. Two teachers, from Wisconsin, decided to test how accurate school grading actually was. First, they gave an essay to different teachers and the grades ranged from 64 to 98. That is a huge difference. This is just because the way they grade and what they think is more important. Later, another paper was handed to teachers to grade them , and the grades ranged from a 50 to 97. Some teachers took things into thought that other teachers didn't like neatness, style, and grammar. In the following year, the two teachers tried the same thing, but with a geometry paper. The grades were from a 28 to 95. Same as the English teachers, some teachers graded some parts that other teachers didn't care
