I would like to bring the over testing specifically of STAAR to the concern of the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This is a concern to me and many of my fellow students. I strongly feel that STAAR tests shouldn’t be required. Here are some reasons why: we have District Common Assessments (DCA), they’re a waste of money, teachers might cheat for incentives, they are put on a time limit, and a single STAAR test failure can keep a student from graduating. The STAAR tests have been a thing for many years, but it has been unnecessary for those years. It is not needed to see if we learned what we needed to learn or to “track our learning”. We already take tests and do many things throughout the year that do that. For example District Common Assessments or DCAs. We take these tests throughout the year over stuff that we learned. They truly track our learning throughout the year. Plus with having DCAs they're already spending lots of money printing tests and they are spending even more printing STAAR tests. This is a waste of paper which is a waste of trees too. …show more content…
They can receive bonuses or salary increases. With the extra incentive to have good students some teachers cheat. They can change the answers to get their students good grades and other ways to get better grades. As a result, some teachers can find it hard to resist. When they involve in cheating, they will normally end up getting caught which can result in them losing their job and maybe never teaching again. Some teachers that do this are really good teachers, but they can get fired because of this one bad mistake. If we did not have STAAR tests, then this incentive wouldn’t be hanging over the teacher’s head all
