Animals should not be held in captivity because of the inhumane treatment, lack of education for kids, and loss of freedom. The first reason why animals should not be held in captivity is because of the inhumane treatment.
The wild is not a danger free zone where all animals are roaming free and living lives of luxury. It is filled with predators hunting prey and babies dying from malnutrition. Not to mention the extensive deforestation caused by human overpopulation(Wildlife). To summarize this point animals are animals, and animals harm each other in the wild. Another argument is that animals in captivity develop certain mental disorders and conditions that are not commonplace in the wild.
Zoos, aquariums, and other animal parks are a place where many families go to enjoy time with each other and learn about animals they have never seen before. The parks seem friendly and all of the animals look so happy and healthy, but behind all of the laughter is the sad, unfair, and cruel lives these animals have. While it is true that some species are going extinct; animals in zoos, however, can become overpopulated sending animals to their deaths. According to an article by One Green Planet, the text states that “Surplus animals can also be animals that the zoo no longer finds profitable, cubs that were a big hit the year before might be replaced by newer, younger animals. Since zoos are not responsible for lifetime care of animals, they can get rid of the animals who are no longer profitable or useful” (The Shocking Truth About What Happens to ‘Surplus’ Zoo Animals, One Green Planet). This shows that zoos will sell their animals to their death to gain business. Therefore, animals should be left in the wild and not sold for profit.

Animals are limited to what they can do because of the living conditions they are in. In the wild they have plenty of room to run, entertain themselves, and interact with other animals, but in zoos they are stuck in one cage with very little room to even walk. The animals continue to walk in circles leaving visible paw marks on the dirt.

Captivity is the condition of being imprisoned or confined. Is captivity good or is it bad? If humans were put into cages and given only enough food to keep them alive we would call it inhumane. What is the difference from doing the same with animals? The topic concerning captivity has been controversial for years.
There should not be zoos. Thousand of animals every year struggle with the same problem, being locked up. Although this may seem like a questionable argument, this is a major problem in this world and it needs to be fixed now. In this essay there should not be zoos because they make animals unhealthy, they treat animals badly, and animals are better off in the wild.
However, what people don’t realise is that behind the scenes, those very animals suffer from boredom and immense stress in their artificial enclosures.
