Why was the 95 Theses important? Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Germany in 1483. Martin spent his early years as a monk and a scholar. Martin Luther professor of moral theology at the university of Wittenberg. On October 31,1517 Martin luther wrote a document attacking the Catholic church of selling indulgences to absolve his sins. Luther's “disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences,” also known as 95 theses for academic disputation. The theses were a list of questions propositions for debate.
