Before making an important decision or undergoing a change one should develop a clear and concise strategy. This essay compares two articles written by individuals that have become successful in the business conducted in the fitness center industry. The first article is Why You Shouldn’t Build a Corporate Fitness Center Without a Strategy by Joshua Love, President of Kinema Fitness Center. The second article is Four Things You Need to Know Before Opening a Gym by Dean Giamundo, President of Forward Strides and Senior Sales Executive at Jonas Fitness, Inc. Love's article is a stronger source for multiple reasons. The first is the fact that he is a more qualified author for this type of article. Joshua also provides sounder reasoning and facts to support his claims. Another reason I found Love's article to be the stronger of the two; is unlike Dean, Joshua does not gain anything from publishing his article.
Over the years Joshua Love has earned a significant number of impressive credentials and has become a reliable source for nearly anything regarding fitness or business. He is originally from the small town of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. With some hard work and dedication, he attended Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University located in Syracuse, New York. Here, he perused a degree in finance and marketing, as well as a bachelors of science. Shortly after graduation in 2004, Love found work with IBM Global Business Services in the Wichita, Kansas area. From 1981 through 1984, Dean attended East Meadow high school, in the greater New York area. After high school, he attended Nassau community college, where he obtained an associates degree in electronic technology. After achieving his degree, Dean owned and operated Northshore Computers, a small computer repair and networking shop. After being a business owner for five years, Giamundo used his skills to become the network manager for North Shire Schools until 2000. Shortly after, he became vice president and general manager of Gold’s Gym, in Garden City Park, New York. Some of Dean’s responsibilities during his time at Gold’s Gym included; developing a vision, programing and implementing a design, in addition to handling General Manager duties. During his time at Gold’s he worked with the Personal Training Director and assisted in designing an effective and profitable personal trainer department. This position allowed Dean to develop and promote a successful fitness program. In 2007, he became the IT Project Manager for The NPD Group. Here, Giamundo created and executed numerous work plans for this market research company. In 2009, Dean became the President of Forward Strides. This is a children’s fitness center that provides schools and parents with an established exercise program that keeps kids focused, devoted, and inspired to live a healthy and fit lifestyle.
