Wiesel uses a lot of very detailed descriptions and expresses his feelings in a way that we easily start to trust him. He knows that this is one of the most terrible periods in the history and he tries “to help prevent history from repeating itself” (Wiesel VII). “He does not want his past to become [the children’s] future” and that is why he writes his book to be seen by the people who do not realize how poorly people were treated (Wiesel XV). These two quotes from Night show that the holocaust shouldn’t be repeated. The author shows this with all of the feelings, facts and descriptions he uses.
Ignorance clouded the judgment of the German people. Ultimately the Jews would pay the price while the world was oblivious of the crimes against humanity which the Nazis committed. Elie Wiesel is stuck in dark times for people of his ethnicity. Nazis felt that the Jewish people were inferior. Elie along with millions of other Jewish people are excluded from society and are forced to suffer.
When Wiesel said, “One day when I was able to get up, I decided to look at myself in the mirror on the opposite wall. I had not seen myself since the ghetto. From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. (115)” it revealed how little there was left of him after the camps.

In Elie Wiesel 's personal memoir Night, he incorporates similes and metaphors to effectively convey how the victims ' humanity deteriorated throughout the course of the Holocaust. Wiesel 's figurative language at the beginning of the novel conveys how the Jewish people followed commendable politesse and practiced reasonable behavior early on in the Holocaust.
The entire world was so ignorant to such a massacre of horrific events that were right under their noses, so Elie Wiesel persuades and expresses his viewpoint of neutrality to an audience. Wiesel uses the ignorance of the countries during World War II to express the effects of their involvement on the civilians, “And then I explain to him how naive we were, that the world did know and remained silent. And that is why I swore never to be silent when and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation” (Weisel). To persuade the audience, Elie uses facts to make the people become sentimental toward the victims of the Holocaust. Also, when Weisel shares his opinion with the audience, he gains people onto his side because of his authority and good reputation.
When the young boy asks, “Who would allow such crimes to be committed? How could the world remain silent”, (paragraph 5) again the audience is prompted to emotionally respond. They have to realize that it was all of them, all of us, who remained silent and that this silence must never happen again. Wiesel demonstrates a strong use of pathos throughout his speech to encourage his audience to commit to never sitting silently by while any human beings are being treated
The hateful banter of the S.S finally got into Wiesel’s mind- he now knew how the Nazis truly viewed the Jews. The reason they were allowed to treat them like this: because the Jews were at the bottom of the chain, and those who hated them at the top. The had no power, so they had no freedom. They ended up being banned from restaurants and other public places.
In 1986 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Elie Wiesel, makes two strong statements in his acceptance speech. Wiesel was 15 years old when he entered the camp in Auschuitz. His mom and little sister got killed as soon as they got to the gates. His father went into the gates with him the first time. He moved in January 1945 to Buchenwald in a cattle car.
Wiesel pinpoints the indifference of humans as the real enemy, causing further suffering and lost to those already in peril. Luce’s purpose is to provoke thought in the journalist’s minds on what journalism is really about at its core. She adopts a frank and humorous tone to best capture the attention of her intended audience of female journalists. Through, appealing to the ethos, logos, and pathos with flattery, syllogism, and rhetorical questioning to prepare the audience for her message: “the tendency of the American press to sacrifice journalistic integrity in favor of the perceived public demand for sensationalist stories.” In the first paragraph of her speech, Luce assures the audience that “[she is] happy and flattered to be a guest of honor…”
Wiesel’s speech shows how he worked to keep the memory of those people alive because he knows that people will continue to be guilty, to be accomplices if they forget. Furthermore, Wiesel knows that keeping the memory of those poor, innocent will avoid the repetition of the atrocity done in the future. The stories and experiences of Wiesel allowed for people to see the true horrors of what occurs when people who keep silence become “accomplices” of those who inflict pain towards humans.
