Why Chaucer defined love as faith is because what most women and men desire is faith and honor. Women want faith from their husbands to see if they truly love them. Faith is a big thing in love also , in Lines, 363-369, the old lady responded to the knight by saying, “I’ll give you a choice. Would you rather me be old and disgusting until the day I die but be humble and faithful to you and never upset you, or would you rather me be young and beautiful and take the risk that I’ll cheat on you with the many men who’ll try to seduce me?” Then in Lines, 370-375, The knight made his choice and said, “My lady, my love, my wife. I put myself in your good hands. You decide which of these options will better for yourself and for me. I don’t care what you choose, I’ll be happy whichever you choose.
