Then he goes to Beowulf’s side and helped fight the dragon. This causes the dragon to strike again, which leads to another setback for the heroes. On the dragon’s third onslaught, he draws blood. Wiglaf get past the flames in strikes the dragon. Leading to Beowulf to deliver the fatal wound, after all of this Beowulf senses that he is near death.
While both characters want to fight with honor and bring greatness to their name and kingdom, there are differences between the two warriors. Beowulf is known by all, loved by all, and encourage by all, there is not a battle that he cannot fight. Sir Gawain, on the other hand, had to convince King Arthur in order to fight the Green Knight. In convincing the king, he explained that no one would miss him and could die without hurting anyone. During the times of Anglo-Saxons, warriors believed in fate and Beowulf accepted his destiny with honor; this is different from Sir Gawain, as he was christian and did not believe death was his destiny if he died in battle.
My hero doesn’t fight monsters in terrible conditions, and rarely with her bare hands. However this hero doesn’t have to travel across an ocean to fight monsters. My grandmother has been there for me and my family when we was in need for aid. Beowulf is a mighty character, as well as my grandmother. Where both show some similar traits.

When Beowulf is struck down and killed by the mighty dragon his comitatus should have gone to the son, like any viking or norse kingdom would but seeing as he did not have any children let alone a son he passed on his throne of power onto his most trusted and bravest warrior Wiglaf. For in Beowulf's final moments before his death he passed on all that he had to Wiglaf because he come to and deffened the aged heroic king know to all by Beowulf. Beowulf gave Wiglaf all of his rings and gold during his giving of riches of power for none of his other brave and cowardly warrior
After the dragon made all the other "troops break ranks and run for their lives," Wiglaf "is ready to enter the line of battle with his Lord," (Haney 2598, 2625). The weak blood-based bond of Comitatus has broken, and the troops have abandoned Beowulf. Wiglaf is the only warrior who shows true Comitatus. Wiglaf becomes the perfect companion and a shining example of "Comitatus". All of the other troops lack Comitatus and run away out of fear for their lives.
In Gardener’s Grendel, the monster is characterized as a sensitive human. He feels that no one accepts him. He had Wiglaf ’s help to kill the dragon in the poem. The dragon starts attacking people when someone stole a treasure from it. Beowulf brings a group of men to help him but the only person who stays is Wiglaf. Beowulf didn’t kill the dragon but he hurt the dragon pretty bad.
The reason for that being, he thought it wouldn’t be fair so he used his strength and overcome the evil creature, descendant of Cain, also known as Grendel. Beowulf shows himself aging as the battles keep coming along. The time arrives to fight the dragon and he was weak and old and somewhat knew he couldn’t do this fight alone. The dragon poisons Beowulf with a bite into the neck, and just before Beowulf is dying Wiglaf steps in scavenges through the dragon’s treasures and then returns to show Beowulf and then speaks, “Now that I’ve bought this bright treasure mound with my old lifeblood look to my kingdom the need of my Geats— I must leave you now”. However on the other side of the spectrum we have the Grendel in the movie Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson, S.) Again portrayed as a thing that derives pleasure from the pain of others and a thing that acts somewhat like a human from time to time.
For me, that’s the spirit of true friendship. Furthermore, Wiglaf’s kindness was returned by Beowulf by making him as the new king. Beowulf showed braveness and courage in the movie, it is very admirable. He is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his kingdom and he really fought Grendell without hesitant and without using any weapon. However, I became sad when he had an affair with the lady and he agreed to have a son with the monster, in exchange for reigning the Danes successfully and for him to be known all over
He is a man of his word and the only mighty warrior who deserved a Leader such as Beowulf. He knew what kinship meant and was not about to let his comrades forget their words of bravery when the time came for them to assist Beowulf in battle. In lines (711-713) you see what it meant to be a good man,” And only one of them/ Remained, stood there, miserable, remembering/ As a good man must, what Kinship should mean” To give you an overall thought of Wiglaf is to sum up his good human qualities. In the end I feel you can gather them all into one word, hero.
The Illusion of a Perfect Hero Actor Anson Mount once made an insightful observation, “all of us have a hero and a villain in us.” This is something that has been confirmed over time, across cultures, and is also corroborated in famous literary works such as Seamus Heaney’s Beowulf and William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Key characters in these epics often rose to the occasion and made a positive impact on the society with their exceptional bravery, selflessness and moral courage. There were also instances where the same characters didn’t exercise the best judgment. Although Beowulf had many more heroic moments than Macbeth and Macduff, each of them had their virtues and flaws that surfaced at different times and under different circumstances,
Wiglaf. Wiglaf honored and showed loyalty to Beowulf. Wiglaf also helped Beowulf fight the dragon. So when Beowulf stabbed the dragon and killed it and the dragon clawed his neck, right before Beowulf dies he gives Wiglaf his chain and sword to lead the Geats.
