Will Youtube over take TV? With over 1 billion visits each month and 1000’s of new videos being posted each day, Youtube has been growing rapidly over the past 7 years and the website shows no sign of slowing down. With Youtube, anything goes. From the latest music videos, to animals playing various instruments, make up tutorials and sketch shows, Youtube is home to the weird and wonderful. However Youtube has also rocketed a new group of young people into a celebrity like status, “The ‘Vloggers.’ Originally they started out sitting in there bedrooms talking to a small video camera, now they find themselves walking the red carpets at movie premiers, jetting off round the world for youtube conventions and getting mobbed by viewers in the street. With so many channels to chose from and a TV show to fit nearly every genre youtube has a long way to go before it can claim the top spot. Yet TV isn't an easy profession. There is hundreds of aspiring actors out there, all fighting for the same big break. The thing about TV is that you cant just suddenly decided on a whim that you want to be an actor and appear on our screen within a week. First there is drama school, acting classes, head-shots, auditions, callbacks, more auditions, all for one insignificant role and there is still the risk that the show could be canceled. The do-it-yourself aspect of youtube is what makes this new industry much more appealing and allows quite literally anyone can get involved.
