William B. Hartsfield was a prominent American politician and aviation pioneer who served as the mayor of Atlanta, Georgia, for a total of 20 years. Born on December 10, 1890, in Atlanta, Georgia, Hartsfield was the son of William Berry Hartsfield and Mary Caroline Hartsfield. He grew up in Atlanta and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in civil engineering.

Throughout his career, Hartsfield was a dedicated public servant and a visionary leader who made significant contributions to the development of the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
