William Blake has a common theme among his poetry, which is religion, however there are two poems that show his own thoughts of good versus evil, God versus the Devil. “The Lamb” and “The Tyger”, both written about two different perspectives on God, are two poems that show this theme of religion in sync. I will be discussing the similarities and differences of these two poems as well as analyzing them separately. William Blake was born in London on November 28th, 1757 to James and Catherine Blake. Since his poetry is now celebrated because of this thinking, it is amazing to see how far someone can stretch their imagination and create a beautiful work of art from their own experiences. Knowing that religion was the biggest thing in someone's life during his time, it is not surprising to see that most of his work focuses on Christianity. However, it is surprising to see someone from that time period speaking out on things such as creation and even questioning God on this creation. Even though most of his work does revolve around Christianity, he drew most of his inspiration from the things happening around him and of past experiences. These experiences influenced him to the point where he felt the need to write it down and make it into art. William Blake was very artistic even at a young age, which from reading his poetry does not surprise me whatsoever. The only way to make poetry that expresses such a deep emotion, can only come from someone who has thought of these things from childhood. It is obvious that William Blake has been curious about creation and God from a very young age, and that shows through “The Lamb” and “The Tyger”. However, it is also evident that he has taken these past experiences from his own childhood and molded them into an adult like sense so the different attitudes towards the subject of the poem were shown. William Blake was born before his time, and the lack of recognition he received during his life makes reading his poetry bittersweet. However, I believe that William Blake did not write poetry to be famous during his life, but to express himself in a way that would be remembered for many
