The way William Cox swims, you would think that he was born in the ocean. The breaststroke sprinter has been swimming for Temple University since his first started attending the college in 2012. Growing up in the Frankford area of Northeast Philadelphia, Will has been swimming ever since age six. Since both of his parents worked late at night, he would go over his friend’s house after school where he was babysat. His friend’s parents owned a pool, and would let the boys swim in it. The rest is history. Will attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He was captain of the swim team his senior year, and his favorite swimming memory happened that same year. Will recalled: “We had a chance to beat Father Judge, something we haven’t done since the 40s. We ended up beating them at Champs and set a team record for the relay race. Because of Will’s talent, he was looking at a couple of division three schools. He didn’t choose them because the education they offered wasn’t too great. He asked one his friends from high school who was going to Temple University at the time how he liked swimming and the education Temple had to offer. He also asked an old swim team member how he liked Temple University. They told Will that they loved it, and Will ultimately made his decision to attend Temple University. On top of swimming, will has a hectic schedule. He likes to go to the gym in his free time, and also has a job at Temple’s Health and Science Student Center doing file work. Will elaborates: “In the morning, I’ll get up at seven, and go to the gym. Then I have class. After class, I try to swim. After my swimming, I have to go to work. It can be tough.” Temple University swim coach Ted Unangst understands that practices can be hard to attend, considering they are late at night. He normally gets on his swimmers for missing practice, but will is a special
