Writers usually have an ending to the stories and most win a Nobel Prize. William Faulkner Is a Nobel Prize winning writer that mends all details of a place including the history. Born into a family of four kids with William being the oldest he never finished school, and became a successful writer. Writers have to be known for their works and their accomplishments in order to win a Nobel Prize. William Faulkner became a successful writer and won the Nobel Prize for his novels, and numerous short stories. Before his trip home his family was already informed that he had passed after the tragic attack but he surprised them when he arrived home. After his family found out about the tragedy that happened they were now fighting with misguided hopes for him. As the story continues a widows’ husband who was killed in line of duty then tries to break the engagement of the wounded soldier and his fiancé. The main characters in “Soldiers’ Pay” are Lieutenant Donald Mahon who was shot down in a fighter plan in Europe during the war and suffered a tramatic head injury that left him not remembering anything or anyone, Joe Gilligan who Lt. Mahon meets on the train ride back home, then there’s Mrs. Margaret Powers whose husband died in battle, Lt. Mahon’s father Rev. Joseph Mahon and then Cecily Saunders Lt. Mahon’s fiancé. The setting of the story is after World War 1 on the way back to his hometown of Charlestown, Georgia where his family monorn his death but are surprised when he
