As an academician, I find William Faulkner's work to be a masterpiece of American literature. His unique writing style combined with his deep understanding of the human psyche is what draws me to his work. His ability to capture the essence of life in the American South during the early 20th century is truly remarkable. In this paper, I will explain why William Faulkner should be considered a major American writer, and how his writing was affected by the historical context of the years 1897 to 1962.

This was an interesting fact to me because the history of his family played a role into why he may have enlisted into the British Royal Flying Corps. Although he did not serve in any wars, he did receive training before returning home to pursue his career in writing and poetry.
Another interesting fact is that William Faulkner was a high school dropout. He dropped out in 1915 and did not have any further education. Although he dropped out, William was able to become successful with the help of family. Since his grandfather passed down his wealth and connections through William’s father, it was not difficult to use these connections to get William job.
