Francis Lubbock lived during the Civil War in the United States, and was a part of the Confederate States of America.
Some things that made faulkner’s works different from those of O’connor’s are that Faulkner’s writings are mostly sad and tragic while O’Connor’s are uniquely funny yet ironic, however containing some level of darkness. For example, in O’connor’s “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” there is a character named Tom Shiftlet; ironically in this story Tom is a one- armed carpenter which gives the story a humorous feeling opposed to Faulkner’s story of “Barn Burning” where the father thinks that he can solve all of his problems by burning everything. Another thing that separates these two writers is that most of Faulkner’s stories begin after a major tragedy or a war and O’connor’s works create their own plot as the story grows
The Death That Changed Voting On the night of February 18, 1965, Jimmie Lee Jackson was accompanied by two of his family members, Viola Jackson, his mother and Cager Lee, his paternal grandfather. They attended Zion’s Chapel Methodist Church in Marion, a town in Alabama, for a peaceful voting rights march. State Trooper James Bonard Fowler shot Jackson twice in the abdomen. The death of Jimmie Lee Jackson impacted the lives of many blacks and changed voting rights. Johnson dropped out of school high school to support his parents and four other siblings. His dream career was to become an artist. Seventeen year old Johnson moved to New York to pursue the dream without being disrupted by the Jim Crow laws.

Faulkner’s duty is to encourage writers to focus on problems that deserve attention which are not introduced in other texts. The tone of the Nobel prize speech is assertive yet grasping around the idea of the future for literature. Through both sources, Faulkner speaks not only to the writers, but the individuals that can be empowered by his words and actions. In the Nobel prize speech, Faulkner is directly speaking to writers who have a desire to follow his footsteps, which is writing.
Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. He was the only son of James Nathaniel Hughes. His Father was absent for most of his youth and did not want to have anything to do with black culture. Then Hughes was brought to his grandmothers, Mary Langston. Her house was in Lawrence, Kansas and his mother, Carrie lived with them.

She has considerable literary talents which voiced her passionate concerns about the condition of African- Americans, which as mostly women and stressed the importance of equality. She is known for her epic themes and richly detailed characters that reflected her passionate concerns for African-Americans, particularly women. Toni Morrison was born on February 18, 1931 in Lorain Ohio. Her real name is Chloe Anthony Wofford, she grew up during the Great Depression which has a lot of difficulties and economic hardships which led to her father working three jobs to support the family, which lasted for about seventeen
William Faulkner’s novel As I Lay Dying follows the Bundren family on a journey while it explores the subject of heroism and discusses its subjectivity. The family travels on an expedition to bury Addie, the deceased mother of the protagonist, Darl Bundren, and his siblings. As days continue to pass, however, the journey seemed interminable. During the adventure, the family takes a stop at Gillespie’s barn for the evening. While they rest Darl sets the barn, in which the coffin sits, ablaze.

Hughes grew up in a time of social injustice involving the treatment of minorities (specifically African Americans). One of my favorite sentences in the writings of Samuel Clemens was “ The Mississippi flowed through Clemens's life, as through his art.” Clemens traveled the down to New Orleans learning the river. He also learned how to fly a plane and became a licensed pilot. Through out Clemens travels he wrote down everything that happened each and every day. This book he wrote in was very interesting and had a new story to tell each time you read it.

Born into slavery, he escaped in 1838, and devoted his rhetorical skills to the abolitionist movement. The thought of racial equality in rousing, Frederick wrote articles for a newspaper in the mid 1800s. The best of his era.
Many critics have seen in Faulkner “a credible authority on the South, a writer of fiction who had something important to offer about the regions and the meanings of its past”. The story of “A Rose for Emily” is told by one of the townspeople. The protagonist is seen from the outside and described by a first-person narrator, who tells the readers his point of view and others’ from the town. The narrator and these people had always regarded the character from the outside.

Mark Twain stands out as one of the most impactful writers of his time and depicted the America that he knew with his literature and with his life. Mark Twain became one of the greatest and wealthiest writers of his time but was originally born under the name Samuel Langhorne Clemens to a poor family in Florida, Missouri. He was born two months premature under the light of Halley’s Comet, a sign of good things to come and was sickly for the first ten years of his life.
