The Life and Works of William Golding Award winning literature is created when the author of a work uses their own personal experiences in life to create a their work. This is what helps consider an author one of the elites in their field. There are and have been many authors who use these techniques to become great at what they do. William Golding is one of these authors and his works and life must be studied to help get a better grasp on his literature. The way that William Golding’s parents raised him, along with his childhood experiences are what gave him an interest in writing at an early age. His father was a schoolmaster who must have had some effect instilling literature in him, because by the age of seven he began writing stories, and at the age of twelve he attempted to write a novel (Advameg Inc 1). Golding’s mother was an active suffragist in the Women’s Suffrage Movement (Advameg Inc 1). He wrote three novels which went unpublished, but he was not unrecognized for long. In 1954 Golding created Lord of the Flies. This novel was rejected by the first twenty-one publishers, and accepted by the twenty-second. (Advameg 1). Lord of the Flies is based on British schoolboys being flown out of the country to avoid the war effort. Filled with symbolism the novel "explores the savage side of human nature as the boys, let loose from the constraints of society, brutally turned against one another in the face of an imagined enemy."
