“Stop Laughing at Donald Trump” Immigrants have been venturing to the United States for as long as this country has been established due to the extraordinary opportunities we have to offer. In the past, immigrants would have to venture overseas and pass through Ellis Island to get their chance at the American Dream. Although the process of becoming an American citizen does not require immigrants to go through such stringent restrictions, immigrants still have to apply for citizenship in one of the many ways it is offered here in the United States. He has come out with many strongly worded statements about immigrants in this country that many people have taken offense to but, statements many people also agree with. Statements include those like, “the U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.” He added, “They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” (Patten, 2015) I believe Trump was completely out of line to publicly announce this, and not all illegal immigrants from Mexico and other Hispanic countries have brought crime, drugs, and, rape.
