William Henry Harrison was born February 9th 1773 in Charles City County,Virginia. His mother was Elizabeth Bassett Harrison and his father was Benjamin Harrison V. His family was very well know mainly because his father signed the Declaration of Independence. William had four sisters and two brothers, he was the youngest child. His brother Carter Harrison was a member of the United States House of Representatives. William attended valley elementary school, then Meadowbrook Middle School, and then Norte High School. After Harrison graduated high school he went on to Hampden Sydney college and studied history. He went on to study medicine in Richmond. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1816 to 1819, the Ohio Senate from 1819 to 1821, and the U.S. Senate from 1825 to 1828. In 1836 he ran for presidency as a Whig and lost to a Democrat. He ran again in 1840 and was successful. He became the oldest person to be elected for president of the United States. Harrison was the Ninth president of the United States and is known for delivering the longest inaugural address of any president. In it he said he was going to Reestablish the bank of the United States, Postpone the judgement of congress on legislative matters, spare the use of his veto power, turn around Jackson's spoil system by appointing different people in office known as Patronage. He promised to use Patronage to create a qualified staff, issue a paper currency. His Inaugural address was 8,554 words and took nearly 2 hour to perform. He gave it on March 4th, 1841 in a freezing cold snow storm and he wanted to show that he was stronger than all the other presidents of the United States so he didn't wear any of the clothing he needed for the weather.
