On November 14th, 1854 William Howard Russell gave an eyewitness report on the Battle of Balaclava. This report was full of detail and after this eye witness the poem of “The Charge of the Light Brigade” was born. There are many literary devices in the poem of “The Charge of the Light Brigade”. These literary devices help you comprehend the article and makes the important things stick. Such as the repetition and rhyming of the poem help you remember important parts.

There are many poems with repetition in it including “The Charge of the Light Brigade”. The repetition shows how important something is there are many examples of this in the poem. One of many examples is the repetition of,” Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them..” This shows how they were surrounded and had no chance. Another example of this is,”Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell.” This quote repeats many different times to get the point across. For example they emphasize how brave and noble the “six hundred” were. Such as,” Boldly they rode and well”. This shows they thought they would win even when surrounded. So even when they were surrounded and had almost no chance they didn’t give up. Another example is, “While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well.” This shows they fought bravely to the bitter end. That they had done everything in there power to fight and win even at the cost of their own life. The “six hundred” was used a lot in the poem. As you read the lines they change more and more to get the point across. For example,”Rode the six hundred”, “Not the six hundred”, Left of six hundred”, and finaly,”Noble six hundred”. This was definitely emphasized in the poem. At first it shows them just normal and riding their horses. Then ends with noble six hundred. This makes you think about the poem more and
