Hamlet, one of the greatest plays written in the world by William Shakespeare. Hamlet is well known for its theme of madness and death. What Hamlet is most known for, has to do with the fact of Prince Hamlet being a tragic hero, which means a character who is willing to die to win/get what he wants or who demonstrates courage in the face of danger. In this case the tragic hero, Hamlet, is seeking revenge on his uncle who is now King because he killed Hamlet’s father. Throughout the whole play Hamlet wants nothing more than revenge. Hamlet first learns about his uncle, King Claudius, killing his father from the only man who knew, his own father’s ghost. The play was an exact reenactment of how King Claudius killed his father, Hamlet wanted him to feel guilty and make him angry. The plan worked, Claudius felt so disgusted that he left the performance. Later after leaving the play Hamlet finds Claudius alone and has the perfect opportunity to kill the King, but he chooses not to, Hamlet chooses not to because the King was in mid prayer and if he killed him there he would have been “sent to heaven”. What everyone else did not know though is that Laertes has poisoned the tip of his sword so if he so much as scratches Hamlet he will die, and just in case Claudius had poisoned a cup just for Hamlet. Hamlet decides not to drink the cup of wine, so his mother does, it all goes south from there. Hamlet’s mother is slowly dying after drinking the poison and Hamlet has been sliced by the poisoned blade of Laertes.
