William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford, England. He was an English poet and playwright who was underappreciated during his time. Even though Shakespeare’s plays were written hundreds of years ago, we still read and teach them. This is because his works are pertinent and relatable to people, both during his time and now. Themes such as love, hate, fear, trust, life and death remain present in everyday life, whether it be four hundred years ago, or now in 2016.
William Shakespeare’s writings have not only influenced present day writings, but have also influenced everyday conversation. For example, he was the one who came up with famous quotes such as “Break the Ice”, “Heart of Gold”, and “Greek to Me”.
