In “Steinbeck's Cannery Row: The Gospel According to John,” Charles L. Etheridge Jr. explains his formalist viewpoint on how Steinbeck’s biblical allusions in Cannery Row helped establish his theology. Etheridge references Steinbeck’s use of the biblical theme of light in the first section of the novel and how Steinbeck’s “objective narration” (Etheridge 2) presents itself in Cannery Row. Steinbeck also presents a straightforward biblical allusion through rendition of the Lord being in nature and balancing life. Likewise, Etheridge mentions how Steinbeck uses the tide pool in Cannery Row as a microcosm of the real world and as a metaphor for life creating other life.
William Shakespeare, a historically significant figure in the area of English plays, not only was a poet, he was also a playwright and an actor. Born in the year of 1564, he found himself living in the small market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire in England. At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, a farmer’s daughter. From then on Shakespeare began his career in the wide world of poems, and plays. Shakespeare wrote numbers of plays throughout his lifetime, just a few being Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and presumably his most popular; Romeo and Juliet.
William Shakespeare is a very famous play writer and poet, he was born 1564 during the Renaissance and died 52 years later in 1616 (He lived to 52 years old and this is amazing due to the lack of medical advancements). Along with being very well known he had a family consisting of his wife, a pair of twins and one other child. As I said before William Shakespeare is a poet and he wrote plays, he wrote 44 plays in total and over 100 sonnets. One of his plays is the ever famous Romeo and Juliet (fun fact William Shakespeare also acted in his own plays), and majority of his sonnets is love poems dedicated to love.

He had three brothers and three sisters, all with the same mother and father, John and Mary Shakespeare, married in 1557. William was the oldest of his other brothers, but younger than all of his sisters.

Shakespeare was recognized around the world as the greatest influential poet and dramatists in the English language. He was the founder of modern English, he understood the power of language, its ability to paint landscapes, create atmospheres and compelling characters.
