In 1594, he formed part of the membership of an acting company in London called of The Lord Chamberlain’s Men’s, which was later called The King’s Men in 1603. This new name was an exceptional mark of prestige when they gained the support of the King James I. In 1598, Shakespeare became the principal comedian for the company, and by 1603, he was principal tragedian. Although acting and writing plays at this time were not considered noble professions, he was a successful and well-respected actor. Because The King's Men company was very popular and most of records show that Shakespeare’s works were published and sold as popular literature, many of the nobility started to be patrons of the performing arts and friends of the actors. In fact, early in his career, Shakespeare attracted the attention of the Earl of Southampton, Henry Wriothesley, to whom he dedicated his first and second published poems. They were titled "Venus and Adonis" and "The Rape of Lucrece" in 1593 and 1594 respectively. Having published 15 of his plays by 1595 included Romeo and Juliet among them, Shakespeare was so prospered that he was able to afford ‘New Place’, a second large house for his family in Stratford. By 1599, he and his partners decided to do a huge investment and have their own business: a theatre on the south bank of the Thames River, called The Globe. It was the largest open-air and circular theatre that could hold a maximum of 3,000 people.
