These films or T.V. shows still follow the rough plot of Shakespeare’s plays but usually use a more modern and bearable vocabulary. Films such as Romeo and Juliet, 10 Things I Hate About You, Hamlet, She’s The Man and The Lion King have been adapted into movies from Shakespeare’s plays. Many people wouldn’t know this and but still enjoy watching these films. So Shakespeare is entertaining and relevant for modern audiences, especially when it’s in the form of a movie. The fact that people will willingly watch a movie that is based on a Shakespearean play would suggest that the biggest reason why many people dislike Shakespearean literature is because of the type of language and vocabulary used. These issues were hot topic’s in the Elizabethan era and still are today in the media. This makes Shakespearean literature still relevant to modern students because it teaches us a lot about social issues that are relevant to our lives. For example William Shakespeare’s play, ‘Macbeth’, has a lot to do with the social issue of greed for power, the cycle of violence and war and the corruption involved with power. Greed for power is seen when lady Macbeth talks her husband into killing the King for the throne. This can be applied to many situations in modern history where people have done horrible things through greed for power. Shakespearean literature has many examples where social issues like this are used to teach lessons to the viewer or reader. Because of this Shakespeare remains very relevant to modern students because they can learn quite a lot about present social issues despite the fact that Shakespearean literature is over 400 years
