Skill 3 Part 1: Explication of Marquis’ future of value principle In my essay, I will explain why Marquis thinks that the future of value principle provides a compelling view regarding the impermissibility of killing humans of all ages, aliens and fetuses. Then, I will explain why Marquis and McPhersan believe that the future of value principle applies to fetuses and animals respectively and that I agree with both of them. Finally, I will defend my argument against the future of value principle since I believe the principle is not adequate to explain the impermissibility of killing. I will use termination and killing synonymously in my essay.

In times of tragedy, people look for answers and someone to blame. This is the case in William Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet. The character, Friar Lawrence who was a trusted man of the cloth, allowed the two young protagonists Romeo and Juliet from opposing families to get married. Then later in the novel, he created a plan with the hope of the two lovers being together after they were separated by a tragic event, but ended with the two killing themselves. Being so, Friar Lawrence is the cause of the tragic ending in Romeo and Juliet, as he agreed to marry the two lovers without their parents permission, and devised a plan that ended with the lovers suicide.

William Shakespeare is a renowned poet. One of his more well known stories is Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy of two star crossed lovers in fair Verona. This story follows the guidelines of an Elizabethan tragedy which has three components to it. It includes a catastrophe of the main character with the Elizabethan practice of death, the tragedy can’t just be an accident but by a flaw of the main character, and the hero must have a trait that outweighs their defects and interests the readers. For Romeo, his tendency to be quick to action forces him and the people around him to suffer.
In the tragic novel, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, there are several examples throughout the story that demonstrate Romeo’s love for Juliet. The story is set in the late 1500’s, and during this time the rule was that the father selected a husband for his daughter. Juliet was against this tradition, and she did not want to marry the man her father had chosen for her. She made a risky decision to pretend she was dead to avoid marrying a man she disliked. Juliet convinced herself that she could trick her father so she could marry her true love, Romeo, instead.
In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo’s death scene helps illuminate how fate controls the play. In this tragedy, Romeo kills himself because he believes that Juliet is dead. Juliet then wakes up because she isn’t dead, she had a sleeping potion. Romeo’s death leads to Juliet’s death because she sees him dead when she awakens from her sleep. Since, both Romeo and Juliet are dead, that is the catastrophe of the tragedy.
Based on the plot and character information the prologue contains, we can assume that Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy. The Prologue begins with “two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene” to set up the story. In a tragedy, the audience first sees the order of society, and based on the prologue introduction we can see that there are two households who are both strong and have a lot of dignity. The Prologue then says “from ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean”, and it is from these lines we understand the conflict in the story. The two families have a long history of fighting, to the point where normal people are becoming hateful and chaotic.
