The most hated plot in America is the underdog’s demise- the empathetic pain of scrutiny, and the failure we all miss to escape. The scrawny, glasses-wearing outsider is often the underdog, the hero we all cheer for. The one who makes all the refinements in a society that is stagnant to change. And his most successful storytelling, or retelling, is that in the setting of high school. He walks awkwardly down the hall with his shoulders slightly hunched inward and mouth slightly ajar.

Wilson’s use of satire and other rhetorical devices effectively exposes the immature nature of the arguments between these two groups as well as demonstrate how counterproductive they can be. Wilson’s format is the first striking thing the reader notices. Both passages have the same general structure: They both begin by discrediting the other group, they both claim their group is entirely irreproachable, and they conclude by briefly establishing their own goals and ideas. The interactions that Kozol had with the students from East St. Louis were drastically different from those with the students of Morris High. The students from East St. Louis were poorly educated, as they had faulty grammar and vocabulary, struggled with the concept of time, and had inadequate social skills. These deficiencies are be observed through Kozol’s discussion with the children about the rape and murder of a young girl, who happened to be the sister of one of the children. The boy or the narrator of the story seems to have a multiple personality, meaning he has more than one personality, more than one identity in the same body. The person telling us the story, tells us how a boy with the same name as him (however this boy is no relation to him or his parents), the same birthday, same height, same demeanor, and whom arrived at the same school as him on the same day. He seems frightened by this other boy, who has similar traits to his own, but he wants to rule all the boys in the school, and this other boy does not go along with him. Kathe Koja’s novella Buddha Boy, intends to teach youth about their influence on others, as well as the power of friendship. The narrator Justin, is greeted by Rucher High School’s newest addition Jinsen, who is initially perceived as different, strange, and very “out-there.” Later on, Justin recognizes Jinsen as a talented artist, and a highly valued friend, and despite Jinsen’s peaceful wishes, want to push back and battle the bullies that Jinsen faces daily. Throughout the entirety of the story, Kathe Koja paints a stereotypical and overdone point of view on high school popularity, the concept of karma, and their effects on an unlikely friendship.
When the teenage boy sees four yellow cars in a row it makes him feel depressed. Red cars on the contrary have the opposite effect and make him feel confident for the day. When the protagonist shows this most unusual behaviour to a relatively ordinary occurrence, students are most likely irritated. The readers encounter cultural differences in the novel mainly to the extend of Christopher’s unique character and abilities. However, his hobbies and interest in solving riddles and mysteries are not very different from the life of teenagers at school, apart from the fact that he has the Asberger syndrome.
