What I learned personally about human behavior from the historical aspects of the play is that nothing has changed in today’s society. Willy Loman seemed to perceive himself as a bigshot, well-known salesman in town. But in reality he was a struggling, little-known salesman in town. “The way we perceive ourselves in relation to the rest of the world influences our behaviors and our beliefs. “Consumerism is an economic theory which states that a progressively greater level of consumption is beneficial to the consumers”(mtholyoke.edu, n.d.). Willy Loman’s job of a door-to-door salesman, was starting to fade from American society, due to the use of telephones and direct sales. But, Willy Loman acted as if America hadn’t evolved and it just stayed the same. He always complained how he was able to see the skyline around his neighborhood, but can now only see tall buildings.
