The critical school I chose to write my analysis about is Marxist. When reading, “The Who Grinch Stole Christmas” the main principals showing are social and economic equality. In this story, The Grinch would represent the lower class that cannot afford to celebrate and The Who’s represent the higher class who can afford to celebrate Christmas, with presents and food. "They'd rush for their toys!” "young and old, would sit down to a feast" (Geisel, 1957).
On November 26, 2016, I attended the Emerald City Theatre Company production of Charles M. Schulz play Charlie Brown Christmas. The production of the play was great for the children who were in attends of the play. The production took away the 4th wall. Which help the children of the audiences be a part of the play a couple of times. Still, it 's a good and time-efficient choice for family members who are used to the animated Charlie Brown and wanting it to be the same as the TV special.

The plays, "Trifles" by Susan Glasspell and "A Doll 's house" by Henrick Ibsen portray the way women were treated throughout the nineteenth century using the literary tool of symbolism. In Susan Glaspell 's "Trifles" she uses the bird cage and the dead bird to present the role and life of women in marriage and society, whereas Henrik Ibsen uses the dollhouse as a way for the reader to recognize the plays main similarities in the treatment of women. Even though the women in these plays share different lifestyles, they all face the same issues in their lives. In "trifles" Mr. And Mrs. Wright 's relationship can be described as abusive and lifeless.
Dr. Seuss’ poem, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” can be analyzed using many different schools of criticism, however, the psychoanalytical school of criticism holds allows us to truly understand the “true meaning” behind the poem. The poem begins with a socially isolated character, the Grinch, who loathes Christmas and wishes to completely destroy it. He wants to completely eliminate Christmas from “Whoville.” The Grinch gets irritated whenever when he hears the singing from the children and sees families feasting together in the holiday season. However, as the poem progress, the Grinch starts to feel the love and happiness involved with Christmas and ends up correcting his wrongdoings to ultimately enjoy Christmas with the “Whos.”
Gone with the Wind Analysis While watching the film Gone with the Wind most people would pay little to no attention to details like camera angle or lighting. However, Gone with the Wind is a great example of mise-en-scene ,what is physically being shot in the scene without editing and can include, but is not limited to camera movement, lighting, focus and scenery, in many different ways. Mise-en-scene actually appears during the first scene when Scarlett is sitting on the steps of Tara, her family’s plantation, along with her two of her male companions. Scarlett is sitting on the top stair while the twins are sitting on stairs below hers almost as if they were worshipping her. Scarlett is also looking down upon the twins as if she were superior to them.
A major scene in the film is Dwane’s breakdown, once he learns of his inability to enter the air force due to his colour-blindness. This scene has many interesting features and techniques within it, including many different camera angles, character actions, lighting effects on the movie and the viewer, irony, props, sound, and even hidden messages, along with a variety of themes in relation to the rest of the movie. Little miss sunshine was released in 2006 through 20th century fox, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and written by Michael Arndt. The directors and writer would have chosen the actors in the scene for their abilities and what character qualities they could bring to the movie.
“One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest” is a film directed by Miloš Forman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The Film was released in 1975. It is the story of a convicted man, trying to outsmart the American legal system by playing mentally ill. The film starts at the beginning when the main character, Randle McMurphy, enters the mental institution. It won 6 Golden Globes as well as 5 Oscars and many other nominations.
Toy story is the initially enlivened film by Pixar Directed by John Lasseter. Toy Story takes after a gathering of toys who put on a show to be dead at whatever point people are available. Contrasting and Comparing You may think the play and movie of “A Christmas Carol” are the same. Well you are quite mistaken. In the Play and Movie they are very different from each other. From watching the movie and reading the play the Climax, the Conflict, and the resolution are different from each other.
Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen was highly criticized for undeniably demonstrating woman’s issues in the 19th century. While the play doesn’t change setting much at all, Ibsen clearly focuses in on the characterization of three insightful characters: Mrs. Linde, Nora, and Helmer. Mrs. Linde is a minor character; however, that doesn’t alter her effect on the play. She provides the mold for the perfect, idealized wife. Nora, the main character, develops rapidly in the play, and her character is a stark contrast to Mrs. Linde.
Past and Present Intertwine Through Symbolism Tennessee Williams is a world famous playwright. He has won many prestigious awards. In 1947, Williams penned one of his most famous plays, A Streetcar Named Desire, winning him the Pulitzer Prize. William’s background greatly influenced his writing, and because of this, alcoholism and mental illness are issues strongly reflected in his works (Williams 1817). A Streetcar Named Desire is a story about a women with mental health issues, named Blanche Dubois.
CWOF Final: Short Answer Satire: Satire is the use of humor and humorous situations to cast light on social issues. Satire is brought forth through many different forms of media such as plays, news articles, comics, TV shows and movies. Some examples of satire in our everyday life include The Onion and SNL Skits. In our Classical World on Film class we watched the satire Monty Python’s the Life of Brian. Fantasy Film Genre:
Tim Burton is a man praised for his cinematic style and contributions into the world of film. Tim Burton is influenced by his fascination with children’s stories and fairy tales. An article states, “Burton stories encourage escapism into worlds of fantasy and supernatural.” Some of his children’s movies are rather dark but delightful. Tim Burton was influenced by Roald Dahl along with other well-known authors such as Dr. Suess.
Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House is a play set in 19th century Norway, when women’s rights were restricted and social appearance was more important than equality and true identity. In A Doll’s House, Nora represents 19th century women entrapped by society to fulfill wifely and motherly obligations, unable to articulate or express their own feelings and desires. Ibsen uses Nora’s characterization, developed through her interactions with others as well as her personal deliberations and independent actions, language and structure in order to portray Nora’s movement from dependence to independence, gaining sovereignty from the control of her selfish husband, deceitful marriage and the strict social guidelines of morality in 19th century Norway. Initially, Nora appears to be a dependent, naïve, and childlike character; yet, as the play unfolds, she appears to be a strong, independent woman who is willing to make sacrifices for those she cares about as well as herself.
