Windshield Assessment Zip Code 30114 The purpose of the windshield assessment is to learn and observe the different areas within the state we live in. The area that our assignment is based on is Canton, Georgia with a focus on zip code 30114. This assignment gave us some perspectives on the population, economy, history, statistics, needs and concerns of the community. Spending time within a community helps understand that there are differences between cities and the people within those cities; as future nurses we need to know what the major needs are of the different communities we are serving. In March 2015 the narcotics unit reported they had seized over $8,400 of heroin since January (Wolfe, J., 2015). Alcoholism is also prevalent in this county, which may contribute to the 1.6% of liver disease seen (Blood Testing Lab Locations in Canton., 2015). Since there are many citizens affected by drugs and alcohol, one can hypothesize that there is a high rate of undiagnosed mental and behavioral health issues in the communities that make up Cherokee County (CHNA, 2012). The 30114 community has several outpatient mental health facilities. Highlands River Health is one that serves children, adolescents, and adults. There are several homeless shelters within a twenty to thirty mile radius. We were only able to find two in Canton which serve females. Bethany Place is a home to single women or unwed mothers. Their mission is to “educate such women to become productive and secure members of society through hard work, dedication and determination.” (Home., n.d.) The other one is called Angel House of North Georgia which houses nineteen girls ranging from age 12 – 19. They teach the girls skills that they will need to be successful in their future (North Georgia Angel House Inc. - Welcome. n.d.). Cherokee Family Violence Center is a crisis center and safety shelter for victims, usually mothers and their children, of domestic violence. Overall both agencies were professional and courteous to myself and from my observation to other clients. If needed I believe that the Family Links program would be appropriate and suitable for providing mental health services. However, at Hamlin FCCS there would need to be a referral made prior to requesting services. The staff appeared to be competent and approachable which may increase client engagement and participation.

He explained after the Army he stayed with a girlfriend for a little while and some friends however things never worked out because of his distrust of people and the government. The objective of the survey observed consisted of small businesses, such as chicken shacks, Spanish bodegas, liquor stores, banks, strip malls, gas stations, a football field, Dunkin Donuts, dollar stores, HR Blocks, a large community park, schools, public transportation, Spanish and Portuguese restaurants, no fine dining observed. The ability to apply and gain benefits through state and federal programs is helping to provide food and some financial assistance to the homeless population as well as a community outreach programs being deployed in cities all over the country. New opportunities for employment and training are available for those who are homeless and looking to get back into the workforce and get off the street.
